Maize crops are completing the growing stage at the end of February and harvest will start in March. The harvest of sorghum and millet will start in May. During the last month, rainfall has been average in most parts of the country, except for a rainfall deficit that affected mainly the central and western part of the country, and specifically the provinces of Benguela, Cuanza Sul and Huambo (where cumulative rainfall for the last month has been ca. 40%-45% below-average in Benguela and Cuanza Sul and ca. 20% below-average in Huambo).
At mid-February, vegetation conditions are average to slightly above-average in most areas. Water stressed vegetation conditions are only observed in Bie, northern Huambo and southern Malanje. According to
FAO GIEWS (12/02), the high prices of key agricultural inputs (including fertilizers and fuel) may restrict access to adequate supplies worsening yield prospects. The
Copernicus C3S Multimodel seasonal rainfall forecast for March 2025 points to below-average rainfall over northern parts and coastal parts of Angola, whereas there is a slight tilt in the odds to favor average to above-average rainfall in southern and eastern Angola.
