Bolivia

April 2026
In April, the main cycle of maize is continuing the harvest, while it starts for the minor cycle of sorghum and approaches the end for rice. Conversely, sowing stage starts for wheat and the main cycle of sorghum. In the past month, rainfall was above average in most cropland areas, with favourable prospects for the sowing activities. Below average rainfall was instead recorded in the southern part of Santa Cruz and Tarija. Vegetation conditions are poor in some cropland areas of the grain basket department of Santa Cruz, likely due to cumulated deficits in January and February, the earlier stages of the crop cycle. Forecasts indicate that wetter than normal conditions will persist through August in the central and northern part of the country (Copernicus C3S Multimodel). However, there is no sign of improvement on the fuel shortage hindering farmers' ability to harvest their crops (Reuters).
