Zambia

March 2026
Harvesting of the main summer cereal crops is expected to begin in late April. Cumulative rainfall from November 2025 to mid-March 2026 has been generally average to above-average across the country, resulting in overall average crop biomass conditions. However, in central and north-central regions—specifically in the North-Western, Copperbelt, and Central provinces—cumulative rainfall was slightly below average; as a result, approximately 25%–35% of cropland areas are exhibiting poor crop conditions. Maize production is projected to see a strong recovery, with the government targeting a harvest of 4.5 million metric tonnes for the 2025/2026 agricultural season (News article). Meanwhile, rangeland conditions remain close to average nationwide.
