Rwanda

February 2025
Harvest of season A sorghum and maize is underway, while it is completed for beans. After a delayed onset, the overall performance of season A is expected to be average, except for areas in the east. In Kayonza, which accounts for 6.8% of national cereal production, 29% of the active agricultural area was seen to be in poor vegetation status at the beginning of February. Average rainfall conditions have been recorded over the past 30 days; however, the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) multi-model seasonal forecasts predict a predominantly dry outlook across the country for the upcoming Season B planting period. In late January, IFAD launched a $2 million project to enhance food security, improve livelihoods, and build climate resilience for over 100,000 cassava farming households across 10 districts in Rwanda, with a focus on empowering small-scale farmers.
