Burkina Faso

June 2026
In the southern, south-central, central-eastern and eastern part of the country maize, sorghum, and millet sowings are underway, whereas in the northern and some central parts, sowings will start in June with the arrival of the rains. Rainfall in the last month has been average to slightly above-average across the country. Despite the good rainfall received in the last month, a slight delay in crop growth is visible in the Εst, Centre-est, Centre-ouest, Centre-sud and Boucle Mouhoun regions, where negative greenness anomalies affect approximately 35% to 45% of the active crop area. Similarly, below-average rangeland biomass is observed across Est, Boucle Mouhoun, Centre-ouest, Centre-est and Plateau Central where nearly 30% to 50% of the pasture area exhibiting vegetation stress. It is still early in the season and the situation needs to be monitored in the coming weeks. The Copernicus C3S Multimodel seasonal rainfall forecast  for the July–August 2026 period points to drier-than-average conditions across northern and central areas, and average conditions in the southeast. According to FEWS NET (May 2026), although a 4% national decline in conflict encourages population returns and initial farming, severe Crisis (IPC Phase 3) outcomes are expected between June and September across northern and eastern border provinces where low incomes will prevent conflict-affected families from buying basic food, forcing them to skip or reduce meals despite gathering wild foods.
