In Iraq, harvest of winter wheat and barley finalized in July with good prospects except in the south due to government ban on irrigation. According to FAO GIEWS, Iraq’s wheat and cereals output is forecast at 5.6 and 6.5 million tons, respectively, i.e. 34% and 31% above the respective five year averages. This year, in contrast with 2025, 2023 and 2022, rice cultivation has been authorized in the south (Najaf, Qadissiya) and rice, to be harvested in October-November, is growing under good conditions. Sowings of next season barley and wheat are expected to start in October-November under above average rainfall conditions till January, according to C3S multimodel forecast.
